Texas Pharmacy Day at the Capitol
WHEN: February 28, 2017
WHERE: Texas State Capitol
On behalf of TSHP President Sidney Phillips and President-Elect Tammy Cohen, thank you to everyone who participated in Texas Pharmacy Day at the Capitol.
It was a fantastic showing with over 300 pharmacists and pharmacy students converging on the Texas State Capitol in Austin, TX. After morning briefings, all were off for visits with the legislators to discuss the Bills supported by the Texas Pharmacy Summit organizations. We heard many discussing the great meetings they had with their legislators! We hope that you will share with us any special comments or outcomes from your visit(s).
A highlight of the day was the recognition on the House & Senate floors when February 28 was announced as Texas Pharmacy Day at the Capitol. We hope that all in attendance were in one or both of those meetings to hear the great pharmacists and pharmacy students of the state of Texas be recognized and acknowledged.
TSHP leadership and Lobbyist, Brad Shields, also meet with the Attorney General’s office to discuss rising drug prices and the challenge this poses to health systems, patients, and the Texas economy.
In addition, several meetings and discussions were conducted with key legislatures and department staff to support adding a Health-System pharmacist to the Texas Board of Pharmacy.
Health-System Pharmacy was well represented at the Capitol during the 2017 Texas Pharmacy Day at the Capitol. We look to grow on this success in 2019.
Together we can make a difference!
