Walker receives the 2025 Grace Dyan Coggin MSHP Memorial Scholarship

The Texas Society of Health-System Pharmacists Research & Education Foundation (TSHP R&E Foundation) is proud to announce the recipient of the 2025 Grace Dyan Coggin MSHP Memorial Scholarship is Madelyn Walker.
The Metroplex Society of Health-System Pharmacists (MSHP) established a scholarship in memory of Grace Dyan Coggin, granddaughter of TSHP Executive Director Paul F. Davis and his wife Beth in 2009. Grace passed away at the age of 2 years, 5 months as a result of Spinal Muscular Atrophy, a genetic disease that strikes about 1 in 6,000 babies each year. About 1 in 40 adults carry the gene. SMA affects muscles throughout the body, although the proximal muscles are often most severely affected. Preference is given to students who are afflicted with or have had to overcome a physical disability.
Madelyn Walker is a rising third year student at the University of Texas at Austin College of Pharmacy. Before pharmacy school, she earned a Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences from Mississippi State University. From her first introduction to pharmacy, Madelyn has demonstrated a strong commitment to patient care and the advancement of the pharmacy profession. She is the founder and president of the Texas Chapter of the Pediatric Pharmacy Association and serves in several leadership roles, including Vice President of Pharmacy Council, Pediatric Committee Co-Chair for the Student Society of Health-System Pharmacists, Director of Communications for the National Community Oncology Dispensing Association, Treasurer for Christian Pharmacists Fellowship International, and Operation Heart Chair for the Student American Pharmacists Association. Additionally, she is a pharmacy ambassador and a member of Kappa Epsilon. Madelyn continues to develop her clinical and research skills through diverse experiences. She works as a Pharmacy Charge Technician at Ascension Seton Medical Center Austin, gaining valuable insight into pharmacy operations. She is also involved in pediatric pharmacotherapy research at Dell Children’s Hospital. Beyond her clinical and research pursuits, Madelyn is dedicated to teaching and mentorship. She currently serves as a pathophysiology academic assistant for first-year pharmacy students, providing support to help them succeed in their coursework.
With aspirations of pursuing a PGY1 and PGY2 residency to specialize in pediatric pharmacy and she hopes to contribute to research, education, and community health and shape the future of pharmacy practice while making a lasting impact on pediatric care.
This honor was presented April 4 during the 2025 Texas Society of Health-System Pharmacy (TSHP) Annual Seminar at the Irving Convention Center at Las Colinas in Irving, TX. TSHP’s Annual Seminar is the largest educational and networking meeting of student
pharmacists, career pharmacists, new practitioners, technicians, and industry professionals in Texas. With a focus on quality patient care and medication safety, registrants may select from many educational and networking activities, including dozens
of hours of live programming each year and events catered to students as well as. TSHP Annual Seminar programs are designed to maintain and enhance the knowledge, skills, and abilities of pharmacy professionals in health-systems across Texas.
