The Texas Society of Health-System Pharmacists Research & Education Foundation (TSHP R&E Foundation) is proud to announce the recipient of the 2025 Michael Patry/Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center School of Pharmacy EPASHP Memorial Scholarship is Kreed Averhoff.

One of the four El Paso Area Society of Health-System Pharmacists scholarships is designated for a pharmacy student native to the El Paso area who are attending Texas Tech University Health Science Center School of Pharmacy (TTUHSCSOP). The scholarship was established by the El Paso Society in 2007. It honors Michael Patry, son of Dr. Roland and Janice Patry. Michael would have entered his sophomore year at Amarillo High School when he passed away on July 31, 1999 from a heart attack. He was a member of the Amarillo High School Band and an avid horseman, winning many prizes and ribbons in hunter classes of competition. Dr. Patry is a Past President of TSHP and the Gulf Coast Society of Health-System Pharmacists, as well as a former member of the R&E Foundation Board of Directors. Dr. Patry was Regional Dean at Texas Tech University Health Sciences School of Pharmacy in Dallas and has been a strong advocate for EPASHP initiatives. Preference is given to a native of the greater El Paso area attending TTUHSCSOP. If no applicants meet these criteria, preference is given to pharmacy students native to the El Paso area or West Texas ( see map) area attending any accredited pharmacy school, or other student the scholarship committee feels meets the requirements.

"I was born and raised in Stephenville, Texas. Growing up, I watched both of my parents serve in a retail pharmacy setting and witnessed the important role they play in the healthcare field," said Averhoff. "I completed my bachelor’s degree from Tarleton State University with an Animal Science major, concentrating in science. While attending Tarleton, I was heavily involved in the Tarleton Bass Club, and served as Secretary and Alumni Sponsor. I also started my own business raising Australian Shepherd puppies during 2020. I am now a first-year pharmacy student at Texas Tech’s Health Sciences Center in Abilene. Although I have been busy with school, I have had the opportunity to volunteer with Meals on Wheels, donate plasma, and make blankets for children at the local hospital. Following pharmacy school, my career goal is to work in a community pharmacy in rural Texas. After working in one of my hometown's local pharmacies, I feel that I can have the biggest impact and be more involved in a smaller community working and in a more remote place."

This honor was presented April 4 during the 2025 Texas Society of Health-System Pharmacy (TSHP) Annual Seminar at the Irving Convention Center at Las Colinas in Irving, TX. TSHP’s Annual Seminar is the largest educational and networking meeting of student pharmacists, career pharmacists, new practitioners, technicians, and industry professionals in Texas. With a focus on quality patient care and medication safety, registrants may select from many educational and networking activities, including dozens of hours of live programming each year and events catered to students as well. TSHP Annual Seminar programs are designed to maintain and enhance the knowledge, skills, and abilities of pharmacy professionals in health-systems across Texas.

Testimonials from past scholarship recipients have gone on record noting how crucial TSHP's financial assistance has been to them. Read what several past scholarship winners had to say at https://tshp.org/scholartestimony.
