ASHP House of Delegates

Represent Texas as an elected Texas Delegate.

Information

The Texas Society of Health-System Pharmacy Nominating Committee annually seeks names of individuals for consideration for ASHP Delegate. Texas is traditionally entitled to six (6) Delegates to serve at the ASHP Summer Meeting and House of Delegates.

Three (3) Delegates will be elected each year. Candidate(s) not elected as Delegates who receive the next most votes will be named as Alternates, with the 4th highest vote count serving as the 1st Alternate, 5th highest vote count serving as the 2nd Alternate, etc. (note, the number of alternates is capped at half the total of delegates). Terms of service are two-years and no delegate may serve more than two consecutive terms.

Preferred Criteria to Serve

The TSHP Nominations Committee will review applicants and select the final candidates for the official ballot. There shall be no more candidates than twice the number of delegates that Texas is allowed. All applicants shall be contacted regarding their application status on or before December 30.

The Nominations Committee will consider the following criteria in their determination of final candidates:

  • Active member of ASHP (required by ASHP)
  • Active member of TSHP
  • Past or present service on the TSHP Board of Directors in any of the following capacities:
    • TSHP officer (President, President Elect, Immediate Past President, Secretary, or Treasurer)
    • Local component chapter officer (President or President Elect)
    • TSHP council chair, vice chair, or group chair
  • Familiarity with state and national pharmacy issues
  • Familiarity with the structure and function of ASHP and TSHP
  • Commitment to attend a regional delegate conference and the ASHP Summer Meeting
  • Special consideration is given to those who have served as delegates in the past and who have a history of service in ASHP and TSHP.

Duties of Delegates

Delegates elected to represent Texas to the ASHP House of Delegates commit to the following duties and responsibilities. Alternates may be called upon to act on behalf of a delegate and should be prepared to participate in the activities described below.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. The Chair of the House of Delegates will conduct a welcome webinar in late February or early March to provide new and returning delegates with an overview of service requirements before participating in the
  2. March virtual House of Delegates. The Chair also regularly communicates with delegates through email messages to alert delegates to upcoming action items.
  3. Regional Delegate Conferences are scheduled April 27-30, 2024, and it is recommended that delegates attend one of these sessions.
  4. The House of Delegates will meet on two separate occasions at the 2024 ASHP Summer Meetings, scheduled to be held June 8-12 in Portland, OR.
  5. Additional virtual House of Delegates may be held in May and November and/or at additional times, as deemed necessary.
