TSHP Executive Officer Election

The Texas Society of Health-System Pharmacy Committee on Nominations annually seeks the names of individuals for consideration as candidates for the position of President-Elect Designee and Treasurer-Elect (even years) or Secretary-Elect (odd years).

If you are interested in being considered for one or both of these positions, please complete the Online Nomination Application, taking note of all required information outlined below. Deadline for applications to be submitted is November 15.

Required Fields on the Board of Directors Nomination Application:

  • Full Name with designations
  • Curriculum Vitae
  • Provide a statement that addresses the following three items:
    1. Indicate the position being sought (if applying for both positions, please complete two separate submissions, one for each position);
    2. Indicate that you have reviewed the requirements and expectations for office, and confirm that you are eligible to serve in that office; and
    3. Indicate your willingness to serve for the full length of the term.
  • Provide a statement of qualities (maximum 250 words) indicating what you have to offer and why you wish to be considered for the position. Note that this information will be used by the Nominations Committee and on the Official Ballot if you are selected as a Candidate.
  • Provide a biographical sketch (maximum 250 words). Note that this information will be used by the Nominations Committee and on the Official Ballot if you are selected as a Candidate.
  • High Quality, color, head & shoulders photograph. Note that this photograph will be used on the Official Ballot if you are selected as a Candidate.
NOTE: Candidates must comply with TSHP Policies & Procedures regarding Campaigning. For specifics, contact TSHP.

Desired Characteristics of Nominees for All TSHP Elected Offices:

  • able to commit the time required of the position;
  • has support of family and employer for planned participation;
  • has experience as a member of the TSHP Board of Directors;
  • has been associated with a high level of professional health-system practice;
  • has served in elected office at the component chapter level;
  • understands the organizational process, and has demonstrated sincere interest in organizational work;
  • is able to prioritize personal time so that organizational commitments can be met consistently;
  • does homework and is well prepared;
  • can support majority decisions and able to compromise when needed;
  • is able to consider the impact of issues on a local, state, regional, and national level;
  • understands and upholds the TSHP Bylaws and policies;
  • possesses good communication and interpersonal skills;
  • adheres to high ethical standards; and
  • able to recognize and willingness to abstain from participation on Board/Council action items that present a conflict of interest.

TSHP President

The Presidency of the Texas Society of Health-System Pharmacy is a four (4) year commitment. Elected individuals participate as a member of the TSHP Board for a single year in each of the following positions: President-Elect Designee, President-Elect, President, and Immediate Past President. Please review the responsibilities as detailed below carefully to determine your capability to commit to service as TSHP President.

FOUR YEAR OVERVIEW OF TSHP PRESIDENT DUTIES

Year One: President-Elect Designee
Time Commitment:
The TSHP President-Elect Designee can expect to spend a minimum of 15 days attending TSHP-related meetings and performing TSHP activities. An additional 5 or 6 days could be spent in “optional activities” if scheduling permits. Approximately two-thirds of the days would be expected to be weekdays and one-third could be expected to be weekends (usually Saturdays).

The TSHP President-Elect Designee can expect to spend an average of approximately 3 to 5 hours per week reading TSHP material, preparing for TSHP activities and communicating with TSHP members.

Year One Responsibilities:

  • Develops knowledge and understanding of the duties and responsibilities of the President-elect and President.
  • Keeps abreast of current Society activities.
  • Give thought to goals and objectives for year as President.
  • Develops knowledge of the Bylaws, Policies and Strategic Plan of the Society.
  • Serves as a voting member of the Executive Committee. (Monthly virtual meetings)
  • Serves as a voting member of the Board of Directors. (Quarterly onsite meetings)
  • Serves as the Executive Committee liaison with designated Councils, Committees and Sections as appointed by the President (Time commitment varies)
  • Assumes other responsibilities as directed by the President.


Year Two: President-Elect
Time Commitment:
The TSHP President-Elect can expect to spend a minimum of 27 days attending TSHP related meetings and performing TSHP activities. An additional 5 or 6 days could be spent in “optional activities” if scheduling permits. Approximately two-thirds of the days would be expected to be weekdays and one-third could be expected to be weekends (usually Saturdays).

The TSHP President-Elect can expect to spend an average of approximately 3 to 5 hours per week reading TSHP material, preparing for TSHP activities and communicating with TSHP members.

Year Two Responsibilities:

  • Develops knowledge and understanding of the duties and responsibilities of the President.
  • Keeps abreast of current Society activities.
  • Develops goals and objectives for year as President.
  • Develops knowledge of the Bylaws, Policies and Strategic Plan of the Society.
  • Serves as a voting member of the Executive Committee. (Monthly virtual meetings)
  • Serves as a voting member of the Board of Directors. (Quarterly onsite meetings).
  • Serves as the Executive Committee liaison with designated Councils, Committees and Sections as appointed by the President (Time commitment varies)
  • Assumes other responsibilities as directed by the President.
  • Performs the duties of the President when the President is unable to do so.
  • Represents TSHP at the Texas Pharmacy Congress (TPC) and Texas Pharmacy Practice Coalition (TPPC) (4 onsite meetings).
  • Serves as TSHP’s liaison with the TSHP Research & Education Foundation. (2 onsite and 2 virtual meetings).
  • Participates in University White Coat Days, if requested by the President.
  • Assists the President in installing local chapter officers if requested by the President.


Year Three: President
Time Commitment:
The TSHP President can expect to spend a minimum of 35 days attending TSHP related meetings and performing TSHP activities. An additional 5 or 6 days could be spent in “optional activities” if scheduling permits. Approximately two-thirds of the days would be expected to be weekdays and one-third could be expected to be weekends (usually Saturdays).

The TSHP President can expect to spend an average of approximately 6 to 8 hours per week reading TSHP material, preparing for TSHP activities and communicating with TSHP members.

Year Three Responsibilities:

  • Keeps abreast of current Society activities.
  • As the Chief Elected officer, oversees operations of TSHP, assigning responsibilities and coordinating activities with Executive Director. (Weekly virtual conferences).
  • Establishes objectives for the year with the guidance of the TSHP Strategic Plan, the Board of Directors and staff.
  • Serves as a voting member and Chair of the Executive Committee. (Monthly virtual meetings)
  • Serves as a voting member and Chair of the Board of Directors. (Quarterly onsite meetings).
  • Serves as the Executive Committee liaison with designated Councils, Committees and Sections. (Time commitment varies)
  • Represents TSHP at the Texas Pharmacy Congress (TPC) and Texas Pharmacy Practice Coalition (TPPC) (4 onsite meetings).
  • Participates in University White Coat Days, if requested.
  • Assists the President in installing local chapter officers if requested by the Local Chapter.
  • Promotes, influences and fosters the growth of the profession statewide and nationwide.
  • Serves as the primary elected contact person for TSHP with responsibility for communications between TSHP and other organizations; communicates with Board members and officers of other organizations to advise and establish dialogue.
  • Serves as the primary elected officer link between ASHP and TSHP.
  • Communicates with Council members and other health-system pharmacists, students, and technicians to seek grass-roots input and ideas; encourages participation of chapter members.
  • Works closely with Council Chairs and members to recruit new members and retain current members.
  • Engages in written and verbal communication on behalf of the Society.
  • Works with Executive Director in preparing for Board meetings
  • Assists Board members in defining responsibilities and timetables for projects.
  • Assists Council Chairs in establishing guidelines and projects and in reviewing results.
  • Appoints members to vacant positions except as otherwise provided in Bylaws.
  • Appoints the Chairs and members of Councils, Committees and Sections with Board approval annually.
  • Appoints task forces and ad hoc committees as deemed necessary to carry out the responsibilities and programs of the Society.
  • Writes a President’s Column for each TSHP Journal.
  • Presents an address at the Annual Seminar.
  • Gives welcoming remarks at TSHP sponsored events.


Year Four: Immediate Past President
Time Commitment:
The TSHP Immediate Past President can expect to spend a minimum of 15 days attending TSHP related meetings and performing TSHP activities. An additional 5 or 6 days could be spent in “optional activities” if scheduling permits. Approximately two-thirds of the days would be expected to be weekdays and one-third could be expected to be weekends (usually Saturdays).

The TSHP Immediate Past President can expect to spend an average of approximately 3 to 5 hours per week reading TSHP material, preparing for TSHP activities and communicating with TSHP members.

Year Four Responsibilities:

  • Keeps abreast of current Society activities.
  • Serves as a voting member of the Executive Committee. (Monthly virtual meetings)
  • Serves as a voting member of the Board of Directors. (Quarterly onsite meetings).
  • Chairs the Committee on Nominations.
  • Serves as the Executive Committee liaison with designated Councils, Committees and Sections as appointed by the President (Time commitment varies)
  • Assumes other responsibilities as directed by the President.
  • Performs special assignments or projects as requested by the President.
  • Fosters good will with officers and members of the local component chapters and other pharmacy organizations.

TSHP Secretary

The Secretary of the Texas Society of Health-System Pharmacy is a three (3) year commitment. Elected individuals participate as a member of the TSHP Board for a single (1) year as the Secretary-Elect and two (2) years as Secretary. Please review the responsibilities as detailed below carefully to determine your capability to commit to service as TSHP Secretary.

Qualifications:

  • TSHP pharmacist member in good standing for at least two years; and
  • Preferably has experience as a prior member of the TSHP Board of Directors.

THREE YEAR OVERVIEW OF TSHP SECRETARY DUTIES

Year One: Secretary-Elect
Time Commitment:
The TSHP Secretary-Elect can expect to spend a minimum of 15 days attending TSHP related meetings and performing TSHP activities. An additional 3 to 4 days could be spent in “optional activities” if scheduling permits. Approximately two-thirds of the days would be expected to be weekdays and one-third could be expected to be weekends (usually Saturdays).

The TSHP Secretary-Elect can expect to spend an average of approximately 3 to 5 hours per week reading TSHP material, preparing for TSHP activities and communicating with TSHP members.

Year One Responsibilities:

  • Develops knowledge and understanding of the duties and responsibilities of the Secretary Position.
  • Keeps abreast of current Society activities.
  • Develops knowledge of the Bylaws, Policies and Strategic Plan of the Society.
  • Serves as a voting member of the Executive Committee. (Monthly virtual meetings)
  • Serves as a voting member of the Board of Directors. (Quarterly onsite meetings).
  • Serves as the Executive Committee liaison with designated Councils, Committees and Sections as appointed by the President (Time commitment varies)
  • Assist with taking Minutes at Board and Executive Committee Meetings, at the request of the Secretary.
  • Take Minutes at all Board and Executive Committee Meetings in the absence of the Secretary.


Years Two and Three: Secretary
Time Commitment:
The TSHP Secretary can expect to spend a minimum of 18 days attending TSHP related meetings and performing TSHP activities. An additional 3 to 4 days could be spent in “optional activities” if scheduling permits. Approximately two-thirds of the days would be expected to be weekdays and one-third could be expected to be weekends (usually Saturdays).

The TSHP Secretary can expect to spend an average of approximately 4 to 6 hours per week reading TSHP material, preparing for TSHP activities and communicating with TSHP members.

Year Two and Three Responsibilities:

  • Keeps abreast of current Society activities.
  • Develops knowledge of the Bylaws, Policies and Strategic Plan of the Society.
  • Serves as a voting member of the Executive Committee. (Monthly virtual meetings)
  • Serves as a voting member of the Board of Directors. (Quarterly onsite meetings).
  • Serves as the Executive Committee liaison with designated Councils, Committees and Sections as appointed by the President (Time commitment varies).
  • Works with the Executive Director to prepare and distribute minutes of all Board of Directors meetings.
  • Takes Minutes at all Board and Executive Committee Meetings.
  • Assists with Society correspondence, as directed by the President.
  • Sign documents on behalf of the Society as required.
  • Works with the Secretary-Elect to ensure smooth transition of duties.
  • Works on additional tasks as requested by the Executive Committee and/or Board.

TSHP Treasurer

The Treasurer of the Texas Society of Health-System Pharmacy is a three (3) year commitment. Elected individuals participate as a member of the TSHP Board for a single (1) year as the Treasurer-Elect and two (2) years as Treasurer. Please review the responsibilities as detailed below carefully to determine your capability to commit to service as TSHP Treasurer.

Qualifications:

  • TSHP pharmacist member in good standing for at least two years;
  • Preferably has experience as a member of the TSHP Board of Directors;
  • Interest in financial management and accounting procedures; and
  • Ability to interpret and analyze financial reports.

THREE YEAR OVERVIEW OF TSHP TREASURER DUTIES

Year One: Treasurer-Elect
Time Commitment:
The TSHP Treasurer-Elect can expect to spend a minimum of 15 days attending TSHP related meetings and performing TSHP activities. An additional 3 to 4 days could be spent in “optional activities” if scheduling permits. Approximately two-thirds of the days would be expected to be weekdays and one-third could be expected to be weekends (usually Saturdays).

The TSHP Treasurer-Elect can expect to spend an average of approximately 3 to 5 hours per week reading TSHP material, preparing for TSHP activities and communicating with TSHP members.

Year One Responsibilities:

  • Develops knowledge and understanding of the duties and responsibilities of the Treasurer Position.
  • Keeps abreast of current Society activities.
  • Develops knowledge of the Bylaws, Policies and Strategic Plan of the Society.
  • Serves as a voting member of the Executive Committee. (Monthly virtual meetings)
  • Serves as a voting member of the Board of Directors. (Quarterly onsite meetings).
  • Serves as the Executive Committee liaison with designated Councils, Committees and Sections as appointed by the President (Time commitment varies)
  • Assists the Treasurer in overseeing the Society’s funds, investments and disbursements on behalf of the Board of Directors.
  • Reviews TSHP and TSHP-PAC monthly Financial Reports.
  • Reviews check reports when received from TSHP office.
  • Recommends sources of income and changes to help make the Society fiscally sound.
  • Works with the Treasurer and Executive Director on the development of TSHP Operating Budget for presentation to Board of Directors.
  • Assists the Treasurer in presenting Financial Reports at Board and Executive Committee Meetings, at the request of the Treasurer.
  • Presents Financial Reports at all Board and Executive Committee Meetings in the absence of the Treasurer.
  • Works with Treasurer and Executive Director to ensure that an Audit of the Society is conducted on an annual basis.
  • Works on additional tasks as requested by the Treasurer, Executive Committee and/or Board.


Years Two and Three: Treasurer
